Best foods for Braces

5 Best Foods if You Wear Braces

Braces can truly be a blessing and a curse. Your decision to get braces to improve your smile will be one you are grateful for down the road. But when it prevents you from eating caramel corn and gummy bears… it may not seem like your wisest decision. Below is a list of 5 delicious, indulgent foods for when you have braces. They’re great for if you are ever feeling any discomfort from your braces or even if you’re just craving some foods off the ‘can’t have cause you have braces’ list.

Pass the mashed potatoes

Buttery, golden mashed potatoes are both soft and savory. You’ll get the salt you are craving from off-limits foods like hard snack chips. Be careful to brush afterwards because starches lingering in your mouth will turn into sugar and will wreak havoc on your teeth.

Chocolate pudding, please

Calcium-rich pudding anyone? Get creative and top with sliced soft fruit like bananas. You can also try blending it with yogurt for a delicious smoothie treat that will give your chompers some much needed rest. Good for breakfast or dessert!

Pasta, pasta, and more pasta

We know, another starch. But soft pastas are a girl and guys best friend when you have braces. They’re soft and easy to eat and won’t get easily stuck in wires. Pro tip? Add a meatball or two. Meatballs (and meatloaf) are better alternatives than steak when you have braces because they aren’t as stringy and prone to become lodged in your braces.

Crab cakes, ahoy!

Most seafood that is white and flakey will be a safe option when you have braces. Crab cakes are a great option because they really feel like a treat instead of something you ‘have’ to eat because you’re stuck with braces. Our advice? Try this Baltimore Crab Cake recipe from Epicurious.

Avocados and/or guacamole

I know what you’re thinking… what’s the fun of guacamole without the chips? Instead try spreading guacamole on soft flour tortillas. Another idea would be to cut up avocados into large chunks and serve on top of scrambled eggs (which are very easy on braces) along with some fresh salsa.

Town and Country Family Dentistry Invisalign Special

Invisalign FAQ & Special Offer – Save $1,000

For the month of May, Town and Country Family Dentistry is offering Invisalign adult braces for only $3,995 (regularly $5,000). In honor of our promotion, we wanted to help our patients with a list of questions to be sure to ask when considering Invisalign aligner therapy for a straighter smile! While it can be frustrating to hear “it depends” when it comes to braces, it’s important to realize that your smile is as individual as you are, so that’s why your dental care will be, too.

How does Invisalign work to straighten my teeth?

Dr. Mandefro will supply you with a series of custom aligners. With each aligner, the position of the tooth will be slightly altered. Our dental office maps out your plan specifically for your individual case. When the aligners are placed, the teeth will shift from their current position until they are gradually in their new home. After approximately two weeks, you will use a new set of aligners.

How long will my treatment last?

This will vary from person to person depending on the state of your smile. Typically, this will take about 12 months for an adult.

How often do I visit Dr. Mandefro’s office in Chesterfield?

You will need to visit our office about every four to six weeks. This will depend on the situation, of course.

How much will it cost, and are there payment options?

If you book in May 2015, Town and Country will offer Invisalign for only $3995 – over $1000 off our regular price. We also offer financing by CareCredit and Lending Club.

What restrictions will I have when it comes to eating?

Because aligners are removable, there are no restrictions to your diet! In fact, you actually need to remove them to eat and drink. It is important that you brush your teeth after meals and sugary beverages. You just have to remember to wear them for 20-22 hours per day to be most effective.

How will wearing Invisalign aligners affect my speech?

You may notice a temporary affect to your speech, such as a slight lisp for the first few days. This is just your mouth getting used to the aligners and should go away quickly.
